Solidarity on the Move: Staying Safe During Denim Day Community Events

Wednesday, April 29, 2026, is Denim Day, a global movement where millions wear jeans to support survivors of sexual assault and protest harmful myths. Many communities host marches, rallies, and “walk-a-thons” this Wednesday. If you are participating, it’s a great time to review a “hidden” benefit of your Auto Insurance: Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage.

The Pedestrian Protection

Most people think auto insurance only applies when they are sitting behind the steering wheel. However, in many states, your UM/UIM coverage follows you, not just your car. If you are participating in a Denim Day march as a pedestrian and are struck by a vehicle that has no insurance (or not enough insurance), your own auto policy can step in to cover your medical bills and lost wages.

Group Safety Tips

When walking in a large group this Wednesday:

  • Stay on the Sidewalk: Insurance companies look at “contributory negligence.” Following traffic laws as a pedestrian ensures you are fully protected in a claim.
  • Be Visible: Even though you’re wearing denim, consider a reflective accessory if your event lasts until dusk.

Supporting a cause is a powerful act. Knowing you are protected by your insurance “safety net” allows you to focus on the message and the mission.
